Practical Ministry

Practical Ministry, one of my newest book releases (w/ Rescuing Peter), offers fresh insights, and practical, hands-on help for training leaders. Practical Ministry is being well received by our readers, and we are thankful for all your input.

We would love to have you send us a review, comment, or endorsement, either good, bad or indifferent. You can email your reviews to: Drtomcannon@hotmail.com, or you can leave a review at Amazon.com.  Thanks … we love interacting with our readers.

Publisher Info: Practical Ministry provides the resources needed to train believers, and existing leaders, in the work of the Lord. Whether you are an existing leader, pastor, or potential leader, we believe Practical Ministry will benefit you.

Practical Ministry is designed for use in Small Groups, Church Bible studies, curriculum for Bible colleges, and individual studies. We recommend getting a Study Guide for best results.

Did you know? Polls show average church leaders feel inadequately trained to successfully fulfill the duties they have been given. Studies also have found a lack of training to be one of the leading causes of burn-out with leaders on every level of ministry.

The hands-on approach in Practical Ministry will help you prepare new believers for service, and help existing leaders do it more effectively.

Practical Ministry includes:

(Module 1) Prepared to Serve: training for the heart, discovery of calling

(Module 2) Roadmap to Success: learning what to avoid, as well as, what to do, to be successful.

(Module 3) Team Ministry: discover the secret to multiplying the church.

(Module 4) Keys to Successful Ministry: helping to develop emerging leaders among you.

“We use Practical Ministry as the basis for our core curriculum here at Calvary School of Ministry, in Tennessee. And best of all – our students love it.” – Dr. Tom Cannon

“Our objective is to change as many lives as we can.”

Here at Destiny, we seek to change lives, and raise up leaders to impact their generation for Christ. The world desperately needs the hope that only Jesus can bring. Here’s a glimpse of what we do at Destiny:

  • Through the efforts of Salvaged Child, we rescue children from exploitation and sexual slavery. (A Destiny Ministry – visit SalvagedChild.com)
  • Our short-term missions teams do effective evangelism.
  • In cooperation with local ministries, we establish Bible colleges and Schools of Ministry worldwide. We believe in the importance of training leaders of tomorrow today. We will effectively transform the next generation, through the godly leadership of many young men and women.
  • We sponsor refugee school children from the war-torn Middle East. Children who receive more than an education – when they receive Christ, they become living seeds of hope to their own people.

In the Golden Triangle region of Asia, children are being abducted or sold into sexual exploitation – over 100k a year – while countless others are dying from disease, and suffering from hunger, because they don’t have anyone to bring them hope.

Cultures and traditions change from nation to nation, but the basic needs of humanity remain unchanged. Our goal is to minister to the basic, unchanged needs of people, whether they live here in the United States or around the world.

Where do we minister? Asia, Latin America, Europe, and North America. On several continents, we are seeing God do many miraculous things for the nations!

“Destiny is a global outreach and mission support ministry.”

We minister to the needs of people in many ways. We hope you will identify with the work we do, and help spread the Good News, by partnering with the Missions of Destiny today.

What do we do at Destiny Missions?

  • We sponsor refugee students, and orphans in SE Asia and eastern Europe.
  • We help rescue children from exploitation, through the work of Salvaged Child (salvagedchild.com)
  • We help fund global outreach ministries, strengthen churches, train leaders, and sponsor short-term mission trips to reach the lost – for one reason – we care!
  • Evangelism: We’ve led thousands of people to the Lord in Asia, alone.
  • Schools: We sponsor refugee students – from war-torn nations in the Middle East.
  • Churches: We help strengthen and equip churches and pastors through conferences and local church ministry.
  • Establish Bible colleges (foundational training), and Schools of Ministry (leader training) worldwide.

“Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people. But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion, for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd. Them He said to His disciples, “The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into the harvest.” (Matthew 9:35-39)

How desperately we need to have our eyes opened, so we can see our present world the way God sees it! For all around us, on every side, there are fields turning white with the abundance of the harvest, but either we can’t see it, or if we do see it, we can’t seem to muster up enough care, compassion or love – to go and do anything about it. Either way, they are perishing, as sheep with no shepherds, and they are not destined to be long in this world. For life is truly like a vapor, and before you know it, all who were perishing, will have perished already, and hell’s population will have continued to grow.

Knowing that the last recorded words of Jesus, in the book of Matthew, concerned the salvation of the lost ones of every tribe, people, nation and tongue; should of itself, act as a sufficient stimuli to forever induce us to fulfill our great calling in Him. For no work is more important than winning souls! That’s right, the highest and greatest commission you could ever hope to receive from God is the commission to be a soulwinner for Him!

Now here’s the good news: You have received that commission from the Lord, already! It has been forever documented for us in the verses we just read. And the fact that it is God’s will for you, that His work is well defined, couldn’t be more clear. This is not one of those so-called gray-area verses that people like to squabble over, is it? Nothing could be plainer, or easier to understand than this command from the Lord. And what did Jesus tell us in these verses? Basically, that we were saved to save others! That is the primary work of the child of God. We are called, commissioned to win souls, to reap the harvest, to spend the remainder of our days here on this earth, seeking to redeem the lost one of every nation. Why? Because it is the clearly defined purpose of God for His children. And in these verses, you will find, not only did Jesus give us a readily understandable definition of the work we are called to do until He returns again, but also, He vividly reminded us that this was and is the purpose for His coming in the first place. “This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance, that Jesus Christ came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief.” (1 Timothy 1:15)

If that was our Lord’s reason for coming into this world, then should we be so surprised that our calling should be identical to His own? After all, if we were created in the image of God, and now through Christ, that image is being restored, why should we expect to find any other core purpose or destiny underlying the foundations of our spiritual lives, than to go and replicate the work that the Lord Himself came to do? Doesn’t the son, who is a true son, bear the stamp and impress of His Father in every way? And if the redemption of the world, is the driving force of our Father, in all His dealings with mankind, then shouldn’t it be the compelling factor of our life, also, as true sons?
